Tosoh to supply US semiconductor makers at 25% discount

SINGAPORE (CNI)--A subsidiary of Japan's Tosoh Corp has started manufacturing high precision components for the semiconductor equipment industry which it plans to supply to the US market for a price the company says will be 25% less expensive than standard market prices.

Tosoh TCM (TTCM) and Tosoh de Mexico (TdM) president Andy Tudhope said the new subsidiary aimed to optimise customer products for manufacturing in TTCM’s state-of-the-art prototyping facility in California.

Tudhope said advanced control systems would ensure a smooth transition from prototyping at the US-based facility to volume production at Tosoh de Mexico.

The primary 107 000 sq foot manufacturing facility includes high precision machining centres, integrated finishing services, as well as cleanrooms for component inspection, high purity cleaning, and packaging.

Tudhope said semiconductor manufacturers were demanding cheaper components in order
to keep their own costs down and remain globally competitive.

He said the TTCM and TdM combination was the solution -- component-manufacturing expertise combined with a wide variety of finishing techniques, such as lapping and electropolishing, all under one roof.
