HOUSTON (CNI)--Online marketplace ChemConnect said Monday that methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) major Lyondell Chemical will begin marketing MTBE through the ChemConnect trading site this month.
In a statement today, ChemConnect said Houston-based Lyondell will "regularly feature postings" on the ChemConnect site.
ChemConnect noted that Lyondell, the world's leading marketer of MTBE, will continue to market MTBE through its existing direct and third-party sales channels.
Murray Barter, Lyondell's European MTBE trader, was quoted as saying: "Our main objectives for marketing MTBE through an electronic platform such as ChemConnect are to increase price transparency, transact sales in future months, and offer an additional sales channel for our customers."
Officials at Lyondell were not available Monday for further comment.
ChemConnect also is based in Houston.
