UK chem prices rise 3.5% in April; feedstock costs up 3%

LONDON (CNI)--Prices for UK chemicals rose slightly faster than feedstock and fuel prices in April, according to data published on Monday by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

Chemicals, chemical products and man-made fibres prices rose 3.5% last month compared with the same period last year while the cost of materials and fuels purchased by the sector grew 3%.

Compared with March, the price of chemical products rose 0.3% and the cost of materials and fuels increased 0.1%.

Imported chemical prices in April leapt 7.8% from the same month in 2002 and 1.5% from March.

For the overall British manufacturing industry, April prices rose 1.7% from the same month last year but fell 0.1% from March. Input prices of materials and fuels rose 0.1% year-on-year but dropped 3.6% from March.
