Daqing Petrochemical has selected Technip-Coflexip as the ethylene licensor for the expansion of its cracker in Daqing, Heilongjiang, China, from 600000 tonne/year to 800 000 tonne/year.Company sources said the expansion would be completed in 2005. The expansion was approved by the Chinese government late last year.
It was not immediately clear how Daqing Petrochemical, a PetroChina subsidiary, plans to use the extra ethylene, although a new PE facility is a likely consumer.
The company produces 220 000 tonne/year of hdPE, 75 000 tonne/year of lldPE and 75 000 tonne/year of ldPE.
The cracker's current 480 000 tonne/year ethylene capacity was due to be expanded to 600 000 tonne/ year during a 40-day routine turnaround later this year. A company source said the turnaround could be delayed, possibly to April 2004. The extra ethylene will feed a 200 000 tonne/year ldPE plant, due to be completed in September 2004.
The cracker expansion will use Kellogg Brown & Root's ethylene technology. The cracker will be expanded to 800 000 tonne/year, using Technip-Coflexip's technology.
