Binap goes on sale

Rhodia's phosphorus and performance derivatives unit has announced commercial availability of the Binap ligand. This can be used in a range of chiral reactions, including asymmetric hydrogenation, as well as Pd-catalysed C-C, C-N and C-O coupling reactions. Earlier this year, Rhodia bought exclusive rights from Great Lakes Chemical to the Monsanto phosphine coupling technology used to make the ligand.

Lonza wins case

Lonza has won a legal battle in the US over its patents on L-carnitine L-tartrate, used as a dietary supplement for swine, poultry and racing animals. US firms Barrington Chemical, Carnitech and Nutritional Sourcing admitted the validity of Lonza's patents and have agreed to refrain from infringing them.

Avecia expands

Avecia has completed a $2m expansion of cytotoxics capacity at Grangemouth, Scotland. The new high potency substances unit is a multi-product, kilo-scale suite that will make cytotoxic active pharmaceutical ingredients for Phase I and IIclinical trials. It also offers chemical process development services.
