SINGAPORE (CNI)--Italy's Radici Group has signed a master license agreement with Cargill Dow to produce and sell Ingeo fibre, which is produced by a technology that allows man-made fibers to be derived from 100% annually renewable resources, the companies said.

The agreement, signed on Friday (16 May), allows Radici to manufacture and sell filament textiles that will be branded as Ingeo fibre. Radici can then sell the branded products to accredited downstream participants for use in furnishings, apparel and other textile markets.

Radici will introduce a range of commercial yarns in June 2003 and will continue development of speciality yarns that will be phased in over the coming months.

The Radici Group plans to develop and produce filament textiles from Ingeo fibres. Applications include home furnishings such as sofas, carpets, curtains, and outdoor furniture and apparel fabrics for fashion and contemporary sportswear ranges

Radici said the fibres are derived from naturally sourced polymer raw material involving a solvent-free melt spinning process. It said the advantage of processing on conventional equipment was ideally suited for the company's technical yarns.

Tim Eynon, Cargill Dow general manager fibres, said the master license agreement would provide both companies with a significant impetus to growth in the furnishings and apparel markets.

The Radici Group is one of the most active world-class Italian chemical companies. It produces chemicals, plastics, synthetic fibres, fabrics, materials for packaging and other semi-finished products. The group has a turnover of Euro1.5bn ($1.75bn) with 7000 employees in 60 factories located in Europe and worldwide.
