BOC has begun two hydrogen fuel cell trials at its own sites in the UK. In Wolverhampton, a 100W fuel cell system will provide constant power supply to a gas analyser and alarm system, while at St Helens, back-up power for essential services is being provided by a 500W Avista Labs hydrogen fuel cell.

The firm has also entered into a technology and marketing agreement with Hudson Technologies of New York, US, under which BOC will use Hudson's equipment and technology in developing the market for global refrigerant reclamation and performance optimisation services.
