Bayer has now reported it has settled 1042 lawsuits out of court related to its recalled anti-cholesterol drug Baycol.Earlier this month, the number of out of court settlements was given as 888. The balance of cases pending has remained at 9400 over the past month as some cases were settled and new lawsuits filed.
To date, Bayer has confirmed spending $343m to settle Baycol-related suits.
The drug, recalled in August 2001, has been linked to some 100 deaths, most of them attributed to the severe muscle weakness rhabdomyolysis. Baycol was marketed outside the US under the name Lipobay.
