UK chems, man-made fibres output slides 0.6% in May

LONDON (CNI)--Production from the UK's chemicals and man-made fibres industries fell 0.6% in May compared with the same period last year, according to data published on Monday by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

However, output was up 0.8% compared with April, ONS added.

Chemicals and man-made fibres production over the three months from March to May was down 0.6% on the corresponding period in 2002, and 0.1% below the previous three months (December 2002 to February 2003).

Overall, UK manufacturing production in May fell by 2.1% compared with the same time last year and was down 0.2% on April. 

Total UK manufacturing output in the March to May period was down 1.4% on last year and 0.2% on the previous quarter.
