01 August 2003 13:28 [Source: ICIS news]LONDON (CNI)--Plans by the UK subsidiary of US agricultural products giant Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) to acquire British seed oil refiner Van den Bergh Oils (VDBO) were cleared on Friday by the European Commission (EC).
VDBO, a division of Anglo-Dutch consumer products group Unilever, operates a seed oil refinery in Purfleet, Essex. The business, which employs around 140 people, also sells packed bakery fats processed and packed by another division of Unilever.
The EC said the deal broadens ADM's activities on the seed oil and bakery fat markets but posed no competition concerns.
