LONDON (CNI)--Bayer and Lyondell expect to begin commercial production at their new propylene oxide/styrene monomer (PO/SM) plant at Maasvlakte, Rotterdam, the Netherlands in October, a Lyondell spokeswoman told CNI on Tuesday.

She said the plant was due for mechanical completion later this week.

Construction of the Euro500m ($563m) plant, which has a capacity of 285 000 tonne/year for PO and 640 000 tonne/year for SM, began in June 2001. The plant is equally owned by German chemicals giant Bayer and US-based Lyondell Chemical.
