SINGAPORE (CNI)-- SKC, a sister company of South Korea’s SK Corp, will start operations at its new polyester liquid crystal display (LCD) film plant in Wujang, China , on 23 September, a spokesman told CNI on Thursday.

The plant, which will produce 10m sq metre/year of LCD film, is the company’s first wholly-owned facility in China. It has several existing joint ventures. The spokesman said feedstock from the plant would be sourced from SKC’s existing operations in South Korea.

SKC, South Korea’s top polyester film producer, has plans to expand its speciality coating business. Earlier this month, the company said it had designated its display material business as its next key business unit in which to strengthen investments.

SKC, which specialises in production of videotapes, CD and recordable media, currently controls 75% of Korea's LCD film material market and hopes to become one of the world's major suppliers to electronic component manufacturers by the year 2005.
