Global operating rates for MDI are estimated at 90 percent or higher.
POLYPROPYLENE China will soon surpass the US as the largest national market for polypropylene, according to Phillip Townsend Associates Inc. The Houston-based global consultancy says that five years ago, China consumed only 60 percent as much polypropylene resin as the US. That ratio has surged to 95 percent and should hit 120 percent by 2007. China has a 2.5 million metric ton shortfall in the amount of polypropylene it consumes versus the amount it produces. That deficit is expected to nearly double by 2007.
