HOUSTON (CNI)--US McIntyre Group has completed projects designed to expand production of amphoteric surfactants at its plants in Illinois and the UK but the company declined Wednesday to provide details on capacity or costs.

The projects included both installation of new reactors and debottlenecking, said Mark Miller, director of sales and marketing for the University Park, Illinois-based producer of raw materials for the personal care, household, industrial and institutional products markets.

He said the privately held company would not disclose the percentage of the capacity increase or the specific tonnages at the plants expanded in University Park and Holywell Green, UK.

But the company did say the work involved the installation of a pastillation unit and a new flaker designed to make sure McIntyre can meet the demands of a growing market for surfactants.

Besides the expansions, McIntyre said it also has enhanced its research and development (R&D) capabilities by installing DiaStrom equipment for analysing hair strength to aid customers in the markets for shampoos and conditioners.
