LONDON (CNI)--Lucite International UK confirmed on Thursday its 200 000 tonne/year methyl methacrylate (MMA) plant in Billingham, northeast England will be out of action until at least 6 October following a technical problem.
The firm, however, does not intend to declare force majeure and will be able to continue to supply its contracted customers, a spokesman for the company told CNI.
He said, however, supplies to the spot market would be ‘tight’.
The outage, which began on Monday, is likely to last 14 days, he explained.
Spot prices for MMA currently range between Euro1200 and Euro1225/tonne free delivered northwest Europe (about $1376-1405/tonne), according to CNI's sister company, the price-reporting service ICIS-LOR. But there is considerable pressure to increase prices on the back of a tightened market situation, according to ICIS-LOR editor Daniel Cunningham.
