DSM pharma ops use predictive maintenance IT to slash costs

LONDON (CNI)--Dutch chemicals group DSM’s anti-infectives unit has cut maintenance needs by half at its Delft plant in the Netherlands using information technology for predictive scheduling.

A key part of the savings was being able to limit the potential for unplanned shutdowns as well as enabling longer periods between planned shutdowns.

 

Further details on cost reductions or time saved were not immediately available. However, DSM said it had secured “significant” operational savings at the plant by using predictive maintenance IT - Emerson's PlantWeb software - in 1999. 

 

The software accesses online diagnostic capabilities of field devices - pressure, temperature and flow transmitters - networked throughout the Delft plant.
