08 October 2003 16:40 [Source: ICIS news]LONDON (CNI)--German chemicals group BASF said Wednesday its information technology (IT) arm has forged an alliance with Aker Kvaerner to provide plant maintenance solutions for the European process manufacturing industry.
The collaboration runs for one year until the end of 2004 initially and is expected to generate Euro2.7m ($3.1m) in revenues. It can then be extended by further one-year periods if desired.
BASF said the alliance will focus on helping process manufacturing companies’ integrate their plant data with management information to reduce maintenance costs and improve plant asset utilisation.
To deliver this, a jointly developed centralised maintenance planning solution, SAP-PAS, will be used to provide a single, company-wide view of all planning activities for maintenance tasks, shutdowns and projects across both single and multiple plant locations, BASF explained.
David Wilson, sales director for BASF IT Services, commented: “With our 30 years’ experience as IT service provider for BASF, optimisation of the IT environment has become second nature for us. Now we are ready to share that expertise to help the industry as a whole get more from their investment at a time when they need it most."
He continued: “Combined with [Anglo-Swedish firm] Aker Kvaerner’s engineering know-how we’ve built a compelling case for breathing life back into the process industry by integrating maintenance with the rest of the business.”
BASF IT Services also said today it is seeking to raise sales to external parties outside BASF to 15-20% from the current 5%.
