LONDON (CNI)--The European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic) said Wednesday the first innovative science award under its long-range research initiative (LRI) will be presented to an early career European scientist who proposes novel interdisciplinary research in toxicology.
Jointly sponsored by the Federation of European Toxicologist & European Societies of Toxicology (Eurotox), the Euro100 000 ($119 000) award will be presented in July 2004 at the International Congress of Toxicology in Tampere, Finland.
The innovative science award under LRI aims to support creative new research in areas not traditionally supported by funding, explained Cefic. LRI is an industry initiative to conduct research on the potential impact of chemicals on human health and the environment.
Herman Autrup, president-elect of Eurotox, commented: “This award represents an exciting challenge for scientists to push forward the frontiers in the field of toxicology research, as well as promoting the advance and recognition of toxicology in Europe. We are very pleased to be supporting it.”
