Electrolysis technology supplier Chlorine Engineers (CEC) of Tokyo, Japan, is supplying BiTAC electrolysers, used in the production of chlorine and caustic soda, to a 250 000 tonne/year caustic soda production facility for the joint venture between Shanghai Chlor-Alkali Chemical and Shanghai Tian Yuan in China.BiTAC is CEC's ion exchange membrane bipole electrolyser jointly developed with Tosoh. The companies are currently collaborating on an advanced BiTAC electrolyser which they hope will be available from mid-2004.
CEC is presently working on contracts with a total capacity of over 1m tonne/year in China, over 60% of the total awarded in 2003.
