SINGAPORE (CNI)—Saudi Polyolefins Co (SPC) is aiming to achieve commercial production at its propane-dehydrogenation-polypropylene (PDH-PP) project in Al-Jubail, Saudi Arabia, in the next four to six weeks, a company official told CNI on Monday.

The official said the company had resolved some initial startup problems on the new facility which had been mechanically completed. The facility will produce 450 000 tonne/year each of propylene and PP.

It was originally expected that SPC, a 25:75 joint venture between Basell and Saudi giant National Petrochemical Industrialisation Co (NPIC), would bring the facility onstream in January.

SPC said earlier that it planned to expand the PP plant by 250 000 tonne/year, based on propylene to be produced by NPIC, after the company starts up its planned cracker in H1 2007.

NPIC is planning a 1m tonne/year ethane/propane-based cracker project, also in Al-Jubail. Talks are being held with another local company, the Al-Zamil Group on a joint venture for the project.
