LONDON (CNI)--BP said Tuesday it expects to resume full supplies of vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) in Europe by early May following the planned restart next month of its Hull, northeast England plant after engineering modifications.
A spokesman for the UK-based international energy and chemicals major said that it would take up to three weeks to fill its VAM supply chain once the Hull plant was back up.
He declined to give details of the engineering modifications being undertaken at the 275 000 tonne/year plant, or the production problems early this year which obliged BP to declare force majeure in late January.
BP tried, unsuccessfully, to restart the plant in early February. It then decided that engineering modifications would be necessary and hopes to restart the plant in April.
With force majeure still in place, BP is sourcing VAM from third parties and supplying contract customers with 50% of normal deliveries.
