Fortum Oil and Gas of Finland has awarded Uhde a €25m contract to design and supply equipment for a new hydrogen plant. The 155 000 Nm³/hour plant will be built in Porvoo, and is due onstream in late autumn 2006. The plant’s steam reformer will use Uhde technology. As the operator of Scandinavia’s largest refinery, Fortum will use the hydrogen to convert residual oil to sulphur free fuels. Uhde had already been awarded the basic engineering contract for this project (ECN 13 January 2003).
Huntsman has selected Foster Wheeler as its project design and technical services alliance partner for its olefins, aromatics and polyurethane business in the northeast of England. Under the three-year deal Foster Wheeler will work on sites in Wilton and North Tees, providing front-end engineering, project management, detailed engineering services and plant technical support, with options for procurement and construction management services. The financial details of the contract were not disclosed.
Ube Industries is to expand its dimethylcarbonate (DMC) capacity at Yamaguchi, Japan, from 4500 tonne/year to 15 000 tonne/year by the end of the year.
Qatar Petroleum and ExxonMobil have selected Air Products’ new AP-X liquefaction process technology for the world’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant. The Qatargas II facility expansion project, in the Ras Laffan Industrial City of Qatar, is due to come on-stream late in 2007. Each LNG process train will have a capacity of 7.8m tonne/year. The LNG will be exported to the UK.
