BUCHAREST (CNI)--British Vita, the specialist polymer technology company, has started production at its newly equipped polyurethane (PU) block foam conversion plant in Timisoara, western Romania, CNI learned on Friday.

Gabriel Pavel, general manager of Vitafoam Romania, said the plant has a production capacity of 150 tonne per month (about 1650 tonne/year) of conversion foam.

"We hope to reach a 30% share of the local PU foam market by 2007," he added.

PU block foam is being supplied to the Timisoara plant from British Vita's Polish production site until a new facility being built for the company at Paks in Hungary comes onstream towards the end of this year.

A spokeswoman for British Vita in the UK said the company has invested some Euro5m ($6.1m) so far on the new Hungarian plant and is planning to invest Euro3m more to complete it.
