SINGAPORE (CNI)--Construction work on Eastman Chemical’s joint venture oxo derivatives plant to produce Texanol ester alcohol and TXIB plasticiser in China is on schedule, with the facility targeted for mechanical completion in September this year.
The world-scale Qilu Eastman Specialty Chemical facility, a joint venture between Sinopec Qilu Petrochemical Co and Eastman based is expected to start commercial production in the fourth quarter this year at Zibo, Shandong Province.
An Eastman spokesman said the plant would provide the company with a more competitive position on oxo derivatives which it currently imports into China.
Texanol ester alcohol is the leading coalescing aid used in premium quality architectural paints around the world. It is among the product lines in Eastman’s coatings, adhesives, speciality polymers and inks segment. TXIB plasticizer is a primary modifier for vinyl, urethanes and other polymers for the production of consumer goods such as flooring, wallpaper, artificial leather and disposable medical examination gloves.
Qilu Eastman Specialty Chemical is among the first large Sino-American joint venture companies to be located within the Qilu Chemical Industrial Park, which is ranked third among chemical hubs in China.
This plant is Eastman’s second major investment in China in the speciality chemicals market following the establishment of Nanjing Yangtze Eastman Chemical Corp, a 50-50 joint venture with Yangtze Petrochemical Industrial Corp for the manufacture of Eastotac hydrocarbon tackifying resin for adhesives.
