Celanese raising solvents prices in North America

HOUSTON (CNI)--Celanese Chemicals said Monday it is raising its North American off-list selling prices for solvents by as much as $88/tonne (Euro71.54) effective 1 September or as contracts allow.

In a statement from its Dallas, Texas headquarters today, Celanese said it is boosting its North American price for ethyl acetate and iso butanol by $66/tonne. The same price hike is applied to other Celanese solvents including n propyl acetate, n butanol and i propyl acetate. Its price for methyl ethyl ketone is being raised in North America by $88/tonne.

Celanese also announced a $220/tonne increase for its acetal copolymer, Celcon, which is produced by the Celanese technical polymer business unit, Ticona. This increase applies throughout the Americas effective 1 September or as contracts allow.

Officials at Celanese in Dallas were not immediately available to provide reasons for the price hikes.
