LONDON (CNI)--Sabic EuroPetrochemicals (EPC) said Wednesday it has commenced the start-up process on its NAK4 cracker at Geleen, Netherlands.

The 675 000 tonne/year capacity unit was shut on 10 August due to unspecified technical problems.

A spokesman for Sabic said today that the cracker, one of  two operated by Sabic EPC at Geleen in southeast Netherlands, should be back to normal production late today or tomorrow (Thursday).

The force majeure declaration on ethylene supplies remains in effect. The Sabic spokesman said it was still too early to state when the restriction might be lifted. A decision is expected to be taken once the unit is back in full and reliable operation.

Production from Sabic's 575 000 tonne/year NAK3 cracker is running normally, the spokesman confirmed.
