HOUSTON (CNI)--Chevron Phillips Chemical (CPChem) said Thursday it was restarting its Marietta, Ohio polystyrene (PS) plant, which was closed 20 September due to flooding.

The Woodlands, Texas-based company said heavy rains caused by Tropical Storm Ivan caused the Ohio River to flood, inundating a local power substation that supplied the plant. The facility regained power 21 September.

CPChem said the 363 000 tonne/year polystyrene plant sustained no flood damage and remained more than 30 feet above the highest flood stage.

The company said it was working with its customers to address their polystyrene needs. It said the Ohio River is open to commercial vessel traffic and the flooding has not interrupted rail logistics at the Marietta facility.
