EPCA 04: Shell shifts US solvent contract terms

MONTE CARLO, Monaco (CNI)--Shell will move to monthly pricing for all its solvents contracts in the US by the end of this year, Graham Whitehead, vice president solvents for Shell Chemicals, told CNI on the sidelines of the European Petrochemical Association (EPCA) here Sunday.

Prices for some products in the US have often been fixed for a quarter or longer so the company has faced difficulties in moving prices quickly. In the face of volatile feedstock costs, however, Whitehead said Shell has to move faster to recoup higher costs.

Shell vies with ExxonMobil as the number one producer of hydrocarbon and chemical solvents globally. It sells hydrocarbon solvents in Asia and Europe and chemical solvents in Europe and North America.

The company would not identify specifically which products are involved in the US contracts move.

*The 38th annual EPCA continues through Tuesday (29 September).
