HOUSTON (CNI)--Dow Chemical said Monday it plans to increase list and off-list prices on 54 products in its oxygenated solvents portfolio in
Midland, Michigan-based Dow proposed increases of $132-220 (Euro102-170)/tonne. It was not clear if customers would accept the higher prices.
Product categories included acids, acetic esters, acetone derivatives, alcohols, aldehydes, coalescing aids, propionic ethers and glycol ethers.
Pat Gottschalk, Dow's global business director for solvents and intermediates, stated that there are three major factors driving the price increases: "Strong demand is outstripping supply; we need to reinvest in our facilities; and we need to be able to compete effectively for raw materials."
Martin Sutcliffe, global business director for glycol ethers, stated: "Product availability is a significant concern to many customers. These price increases are a necessity to secure high cost and tight raw materials and to improve security of supply."
