MOSCOW (CNI)--Russia’s major polyethylene (PE) producer Kazanorgsintez on Thursday started construction on a new 200 000 tonne/year high density polyethylene (hdPE) plant, as well as polycarbonate (PC) and bisphenol A facilities.
The 70 000 tonne/year PC facility and 65 000 tonne/year bisphenol A (BPA) unit are expected to be completed by March 2007.
Asahi Kasei Chemicals will supply equipment for the PC facility while Idemitsu Petrochemical will do the same for the BPA plant.
Russia’s state-controlled Sberbank has agreed to provide loans to Kazanorgsintez to help fund the new production facilities.
Based in Kazan, in the Tatarstan region, Kazanorgsintez is Russia’s only petrochemical producer with both low density polyethylene (ldPE) (about 185 000 tonne/year) and hdPE (about 200 000 tonne/year) capacities. Kazanorgsintez controls some 37% of the Russian PE market.
