SINGAPORE (CNI)--Japan’s Mitsubishi Rayon Co (MRC) completed the debottlenecking of its methyl methacrylate (MMA) plant in Thailand on Monday, a company official told CNI on Wednesday.

The Mab Ta Phut plant, which is a joint venture with Cementhai, now has a capacity of 90 000 tonne/year, up from 70 000 tonne/year. The official said that the plant is operating at full capacity.

The company is also building a new 90 000 tonne/year MMA plant, which is expected to come onstream in June 2006, at Huizhou in Guangdong province, China. It has another MMA plant at Otake in Hiroshima prefecture.

After the completion of the Guangdong project, MRC will have a total MMA capacity of 400 000 tonne/year. This is part of its plan to cater to the high demand from the domestic electronics industry, in particular from liquid crystal display (LCD) makers.
