SINGAPORE (CNI)--Japan's Mitsubishi Rayon has completed about 70% of its 50 000 tonne/year acrylic fibre project in Ningbo, Zhejiang province, China, a company official told CNI on Thursday.

Completion of the project is on track for October, with trial production expected to begin in July.

Workers on the project are expected to work through the week-long Chinese Lunar New Year holidays next week in order to keep the project on schedule.

Mitsubishi Rayon is expected to expand its Ningbo acrylic fibre capacity to 100 000 tonne/year in 2008 or 2009, aiming to increase its small current market share. Chinese acrylic fibre output in 2004 was put at 660 000 tonne, and imports were at 459 000 tonne.
