Arch Chemical's Michael Campbell named ACC chairman

WASHINGTON (CNI)--The American Chemistry Council (ACC) announced Monday that Michael Campbell, president of the specialty chemicals company Arch Chemicals, has been elected chairman of the organisation’s board of directors.

 

“I am proud to serve the members of ACC, who represent the leading companies of our industry,” said Campbell. “And, I look forward to fostering the launch of the Essential2 initiative, so we can more effectively communicate the benefits of our products and our commitment to public and environmental health.”

 

Campbell, whose term as chairman will run through next January, has served on the ACC board since 2000. He has led Arch Chemicals since its inception in February 1999, guiding it through a period of significant change.

 

“Mike embodies our industry’s commitment to improved environmental, health, safety and security performance,” said ACC’s president Thomas Reilly. “He combines the best attributes of a strategic thinker and a man of action.”

 

A native of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Campbell received his bachelor’s degree from the University of New Hampshire. Following service as a US naval officer, he earned a law degree from George Washington University and attended the Yale Executive Management Program.

 

Campbell received the 2004 Vanguard Award, presented annually by the Chemical Education Foundation to individuals who foster a greater understanding of chemistry and the industry through community outreach, product stewardship, leadership and support of education activities.
