EU Jan-Nov '04 chem trade surplus up 6.7% to Euro60.3bn

LONDON (CNI)--The European Union (EU) chemicals trade surplus grew to Euro60.3bn ($78.8bn) in January – November 2004, an increase of around 6.7% on Euro56.5bn in the same period of 2003, according to figures released on Tuesday by statistical office Eurostat.

 

They showed that EU chemical exports totalled Euro141.0bn in January-November 2004, up 8% compared with the first 11 months of 2003. Imports to the region also grew by 8%, to Euro80.7bn.

 

For the eurozone, chemicals exports in the first 11 months of 2004 increased 8% to Euro160.5bn, while imports rose 5% to Euro96.6bn.  

 

The trade surplus in the eurozone widened to Euro63.9bn from Euro57.4bn.

 

Member states of the EU are Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands and the UK.
