LONDON (CNI)--Paraxylene (PX) and orthoxylene (OX) at the Gelskirchen, Germany plant of BP Refining and Petrochemicals (BP RP) restarted as planned on Sunday, a company source told CNI on Monday.

The aromatics units, with a capacity of 130,000 tonne/year and 70,000 tonne/year for paraxylene and orthoxylene respectively, are running well and should be at full rates by Tuesday (8th March), the source said.

The plants went down on 2 March in connection with a benzene and cyclohexane interruption, which was in turn linked to a very short cracker outage on 26 February. The 410,000 tonne/year benzene plant and 140,000 tonne/year cyclohexane unit were back up by 3 March.

Supply of paraxylene and orthoxylene to customers was not affected by the five-day outage, which was covered by inventories and swaps.
