SINGAPORE (CNI)--Germany’s RohMax Additives has signed an agreement with Singapore’s Institute of Chemical and Engineering Sciences (ICES) to carry out research and development into lubricant addictives at Jurong Island, Singapore, RohMax announced on Monday.

Under the agreement, RohMax will conduct studies related to the preparation and use of polymeric lubricant additives. It will work with ICES’ Crystallisation and Particle Science group to develop insights into the performance of engine oils at varied temperatures.

RohMax and ICES’ New Synthesis Techniques and Applications (NSTA) group will also study the reactivity of the raw materials used in lubricant additives to improve the polymerisation processes, the company said in a statement.

Dirk Reese, managing director of RohMax, said: “RohMax is eager to apply its lubricant additive expertise to the specific challenges and needs of the Asian market. The knowledge acquired through our collaboration with ICES will help our customers to resolve their lubricant challenges faster.”

RohMax Additives is part of the specialty acrylics business unit of Degussa, one of the world’s largest suppliers of specialty chemicals.

ICES is a member of A*STAR, the Singapore government’s Agency for Science, Technology and Research.
