LONDON (CNI)--German chemicals producer BASF said Monday it will be seeking price increases for alkyl ethanolamines in Europe with immediate effect or as contracts allow.

The company said in a statement it will be seeking a Euro50/tonne rise on di-methyl ethanolamine (DMEOA), methyl di-ethanolamine (MDEOA) and mono methyl ethanolamines (MMEOA) prices.

A Euro70/tonne increase will be sought for di-ethyl ethanolamine (DEEOA) prices.

The company did not reveal current prices or quantify the proposed increases in percentage terms. It said the reasons for the proposed price rises were increased costs and unsatisfactory margins.

DMEOA is used as a precursor for flocculants in effluent water treatment. DMEOA and DEEOA promote binding colour particles and resins in the coatings industry. MDEOA is applied in gas scrubber operations to remove acidic components like carbon dioxide (CO2) and hydrogen sulphide (H2S). MDEOA and MMEOA are used as precursors in laundry softeners.
