BASF-YPC takes control of cracker from EPC contractor

SHANGHAI (CNI)--China's BASF-YPC Co has taken control of its 600,000 tonne/year cracker at Nanjing in Jiangsu province, China, from Shaw, Stone & Webster after the completion of engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) work, a company spokesman told CNI on Tuesday.

 

Shaw, Stone & Webster is currently helping BASF-YPC with commissioning and starting up the facility. The engineering company said in a statement that work on the plant, which will be based on its technology, was completed in excess of 20m construction work hours on site with zero lost time accidents.

 

The BASF-YPC spokesman declined to reveal when the cracker would start commercial production, and would only say that all units will come onstream within the first half of 2005.

 

The company brought onstream a few units earlier this year, and made its first delivery to Shanghai Petrochemical Co (SPC) in January - 30 tonne of methyl acrylate for SPC's acrylic-fibre production in Shanghai.

 

BASF-YPC’s complex would also produce 300,000 tonne/year of monoethylene glycol (MEG), 400,000 tonne/year of low-density polyethylene (ldPE), 250,000 tonne/year of oxoalcohols, 160,000 tonne/year of acrylic acid, 215,000 tonne/year of acrylic esters, 30,000 tonne/year of propionic acid, 50,000 tonne/year of formic acid, 36,000 tonne/year of methylamine and 40,000 tonne/year of dimethyl formamide (DMF).
