Japan's MRC posts 12.8% rise in 2004 op profit to Yen30.8bn

SINGAPORE (CNI)--Japanese chemical producer Mitsubishi Rayon Co’s (MRC) operating profit rose 12.8% to Yen30.8bn ($291m/Euro227m) for the fiscal year ending 31 March 2005 from the previous year on the back of stronger sales and higher selling prices, CNI was told on Tuesday. 

 

A company official said MRC’s sales of chemicals climbed 12% to Yen140bn and its total net sales rose 6.8% to Yen330bn. The company’s net profit for the year ending 31 March 2005 rose 17% to Yen14.4bn from a year ago.

 

MRC is a producer of methyl methacrylate (MMA), dimethylformamide (DMF), acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) resin. Its 90,000 tonne/year MMA plant at Huizhou is expected to start up in 2006.

 

The company is also building a 40,000 tonne/year polyMMA (PMMA) plant in China which is expected to start commercial production in 2008-2010.
