LONDON (CNI)--Bayer Technology Services has been awarded a Euro4.6m ($5.8m) contract by engineering contractor Frings Austria for the supply of four distillation columns and a process control system for Kazakhstan’s first fuel ethanol plant, CNI learned on Wednesday

The 60,000 tonne/year bioethanol plant is being built by Frings for Kazakhstan’s Biohim.

Located about 300 km (187 miles) north of Astana, the plant will produce ethanol from wheat for blending with gasoline.

Mechanical completion of the columns and control system, which will cover the complete facility, is expected in October with start-up in December 2005.
