Fluor awarded contract for Saudi Jubail petchem complex

HOUSTON (CNI)--Fluor Corporation said Wednesday it has been awarded a front-end engineering, design and project management contract for the $3.5bn (Euro2.8bn) Jubail petrochemicals complex in Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia.

 

Aliso Viejo, California-based Fluor did not disclose the value of its contract with Project Management & Development  of Saudi Arabia.

 

Design work is under way at Fluor's Camberley, UK, office, the company said. Site work is expected to start later this year, with project completion scheduled for 2008.

 

The Jubail complex will include a 1.225m tonne/year ethane/butane cracker, an 862,000 tonne/year polyethylene (PE) plant, a polypropylene (PP) plant with capacity of at least 544,000 tonne/year, a 481,000 tonne/year ethylene oxide (EO) unit and a 272,000 tonne/year bisphenol-A plant including phenol and cumene units.

 

Additional derivative facilities will be installed for methylamines, ethanolamine, ethoxylates, butane-1 and benzene extraction. Agreements with Saudi Aramco for the supply of both ethane and butane feedstock are complete.
