SHANGHAI (CNI)--Saudi Arabia’s Sadaf is in talks with Daelim Engineering & Construction for an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) package for its ethylbenzene/styrene monomer (EB/SM) project, a source close to Sadaf told CNI on Tuesday
He added that it was unclear when the EPC contract would be awarded. The proposed facility will be able to produce 725,000 tonne/year of SM and an unspecified amount of EB. Front-end engineering design work has been completed and construction is due to start in 2005, with start up in the first half of 2008.
Sadaf, a 50:50 joint venture between Sabic and Shell Chemicals, has a 1.3m tonne/year cracker and two SM facilities with a total capacity of 1.05m tonne/year. It also produces 750,000 tonne/year of methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) and 300,000 tonne/year of crude industrial ethanol.
