HOUSTON (CNI)--Spot prices for US fuel ethanol rose Friday to the $1.24-1.28/gal range in Midwestern regions, market sources said.

Transactions done at Southern California terminals are reported slightly higher.

A strengthening trend has emerged with spot ethanol trades moving up 2-3 cents/gal in finished business, sources said.  Early June spreads are being pushed into the $1.21-1.23/gal range at Chicago and other Midwest terminals. The upward trend that began late last week has continued and remains firm, according to sources.

The start of the North American summer driving season is pushing fuel use higher, market sources noted.
