China benzene imports up 1,320% to 14,229 mt on-year in May

SHANGHAI (CNI)--China’s benzene imports rose by 1,320% year-on-year to 14,229 tonne in May, according to statistics from the Chinese customs authorities.


A Chinese producer said imports fell from January to September 2004 due to high fob Korea prices. Imports also jumped by 57.2% in May compared to April, in line with a fall in benzene prices during the same period.


Toluene imports jumped by 35.1% to 68,869 tonne in May from April. During the same period, imports of mixed xylenes fell to 288 tonne. Styrene imports rose by 3.5% to 228,312 tonne.
