LONDON (CNI)--A new association bringing together European construction chemicals manufacturers - the European Federation for Construction (EFFC) - has been formed in Brussels, the European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic) said on Wednesday.

EFFC was established as laws and regulations affecting construction chemicals, including the construction products directive, material standards for concrete and the Reach (regulation, evaluation and authorisation of chemicals) proposals, are increasingly determined centrally in Europe.

Members of the new body include Sika, MC-Bauchemie and Remmers, as well as diversified chemicals groups such as Degussa, BASF, Henkel and Wacker Chemie.

Dieter Poech, former chief executive at SKW Trostberg (now part of Degussa) has been appointed founding president of EFFC. Pieter van der Hoeven is managing director.

EFFC is headquartered in Brussels and is an associated member of Cefic.
