HOUSTON (CNI)--The US Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (CSB) said on Tuesday it plans to release “significant new findings” regarding the 23 March explosion at the BP refinery in Texas City, Texas.

The board said it will conduct a news conference Wednesday in Houston to discuss findings and board action regarding the blast that killed 15 contract workers and injured more than 100 workers.

The board has already released interim findings citing safety equipment failures during the start-up of the refinery’s isomerisation unit.

Board chairman Carolyn Merrit will issue a statement and answer questions with lead investigator Don Holmstrom.
