AIR PRODUCTS has signedan agreement with ExxonMobil Oil to build, own and operate an 18m ft3/day hydrogenunit adjacent to the ExxonMobil Joliet refinery in Illinois, US. This integrated steam methane reformer and recovery system, processing refinery offgas, will be on-stream in May 2006. This will be the 27th unit built under the global alliance between Air Products and Technip. Technip is to provide the design and construction; Air Products will provide the gas separation technology.
LG MMA, the South Korean affiliate of Sumitomo Chemical, has started constructing a 76 000 tonne/year methyl methacrylate (MMA) monomer plant in Yeosu, Korea. Together with two existing plants, LG MMA’s total MMA monomer production will rise to 176 000 tonne/year when the new plant is brought on-stream in April 2008. In Singapore, Sumitomo Chemical is planning another expansion of its MMA production, with completion scheduled for early 2008. This will give Sumitomo a total MMA production in Japan, Singapore and South Korea of 489 000 tonne/year.
ABU DHABI Company for Onshore Oil Operations has awarded Engineers India (EIL) a project management consultancy (PMC) contract for a tank farm upgrade in Jebel Dhanna, Abu Dhabi, UAE. The engineering company beat off stiff competition to win the contract. EIL claims that it is the first major PMC award by an oil operating company in the UAE to a consultancy in South Asia.
EMERSON PROCESS Management has initiated an asset optimisation improvement program at Huntsman’s plant in Rozenburg, near Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Huntsman is implementing a combination of planned and predictive maintenance using Emerson’s AMS Suite: Intelligent Device Manager software, communicating with a PlantWeb digital network of intelligent field devices. Huntsman hopes to increase the capacity and improve efficiency at its site.
