ISP said the storm damaged its 226,860 tonne/year styrene-butadiene rubber plant at Port Neches.
Damage assessment is still underway, ISP said. "While it is too early to be able to predict when we will be able to restart production, we believe that the earliest possible date may be the week of 10 October," the company said in a statement.
The hurdles to a production restart include restoration of electrical power, water and steam, the return of evacuated employees, the resumption of raw materials supply and restoration of road and rail transportation, ISP said.
Specialty chemicals maker Sartomer declared force majeure for its Wingtack C5 resins as a result of Rita’s impact on the company’s manufacturing facilities in
Sartomer said its Wingtack plant incurred minor damage and it will remain shut down until a more detailed assessment can be made. The plant was shut down several days in advance of Rita.
