LONDON (ICIS news)--The European Commission has begun an investigation into parallel or so-called grey market imports of pesticides into Hungary, Italy, Poland and the UK, the Commission said on Monday.
It has asked them to explain and clarify their rules on imports of plant protection products from other European Union (EU) member states.
The Commission said parallel imports are permitted if the product is allowed to be sold in the member state of origin and is sufficiently similar to one already authorised for sale in the destination country.
In announcing its investigation, the Commission gave reasons why it believed the four states might not be complying with EU laws. The investigation is part of a procedure which could eventually result in a case being brought before the European Court of Justice (ECJ).
