LONDON (ICIS news)--Force majeure on aromatics should be lifted at Petrogal’s refinery in Oporto, Portugal in the next four to five days, in line with original expectations when the site went down on 13 October, a company source said on Tuesday.

The refinery was being restarted today and it had been hoped that the contractual caveat might have been lifted early than originally expected.

A problem with fresh water cooling at the 126,138 barrels a day refinery, which resulted in a shutdown of the complex and force majeure on all refinery products, was resolved today, another source said earlier on Tuesday. A clearer picture of the situation is expected by Thursday, the source said.

Chemicals production includes 170,000 tonne/year of toluene, 125,000 tonne/year of paraxylene (PX), 50,000 tonne/year of orthoxylene (OX) and 80,000 tonne/year of benzene.
